Real Deals

I never noticed the store Real Deals on Kings until yesterday but had to wait until today to go inside because it is only open 2 days a week- Thursdays and Saturdays.  What a fun store!  It has "Utah" written all over it from Return With Honor signs to Downeast Basics clothing.  Anyway, the current store is closing so everything is either 30% off, 40% off or 50% off.  Sometime after Christmas it will close for a few days while the new owners bring in more inventory.  This store has great deals anyway but with the additional discount you can find some REAL deals!

Tissue Paper For Gift Wrapping

At Winco just to the left of the front door when you walk in WinCo sells wrapping paper, tissue paper and gift bags.  The sign says "price reduced" with .99 cents for the tissue paper.  That is wrong.  It will ring up for .50 cents.  The tissue paper is awesome!  You get an enormous amount with just about every color inside.  I stocked up then kicked myself for not getting more.  I can't remember the price of the gift bags but I think I paid $1 for 8 bags.  These items are better quality than the dollar store and cost less!!

$0.30 Stovetop Stuffing at WinCo

Stovetop Stuffing is on sale for $0.87 at WinCo as you walk in the door before the produce. There are peelie coupons right there by them that are "Buy 4, get 1 free."
THEN if you get the boxes that say "coupon inside" there is a $1 off 2 coupon printed inside.
If you use 2 of those coupons, plus the coupon for 1 free box, they end up being $0.30/box.

$1.00 bags of M&Ms

okay, maybe this will only be exciting for me :) but as of Thursday night, the Safeway on Circle has mountains of bags (the large 14oz size) of plain and peanut butter M&Ms back on a clearance table by the milk. They say 50% off $4.99, but a cashier let me know that they're ringing up for $1.00. Sure enough, they are!
I stash these in the freezer for M&M cookies all year long. I only made a small dent in the pile they had.

Art and Air Festival

The annual ARt and Air Festival is scheduled to take place August 26-28 at Timber Linn Memorial Park in Albany.  Entertainment, juried art, food vendors, a car show, night glow and airport activities highlight this event.  Watch hot air balloons lift off each morning promptly at 6:45a.m and be sure not to miss the night glow as balloons tower over the crowd, lighting up the night sky, at dusk on Friday.  Locally-owned Carino' and Red Rpbom are sponsoring the Children's Art Village, a play area for toddlers and pre-schoolers.  Unique craft activities each day with a maze, bubble table, mural painting and young artists selling their creations, are all part of the village.  Located at the south end of Timber Linn Memorial Park near the Veteran's Memorial, the Children's Art Village's tentative schedule is 4-7pm Friday, 10am to 7pm Saturday and Sunday.

Movie Night Under the Stars

On August 27th the Mid-Willamette Family YMCA will host a family movie night under the stars on the baseball diamond.  The fun begins at 8:45 with a free showing of Rio.  Bring blankets, pillows and lawn chairs.  Concessions will be available to purchase for under $1.  Call 541-926-4488.

balloon show at the library today

Today the library is having a balloon show as a fun end to the summer reading program.  It's today at 3:30pm.  Every child will leave with a shaped balloon and they will provide treats and refreshments.  Don't forget picnic in the park today at 11:30!

free crafts at michaels craft store

Last Thursday I happened to need a few things so popped into Michaels.  It just so happened my kids joined right into a free craft.  It happened to be one of the very last "Make It Take It" projects in July but they have a new schedule for August out now that wasn't available the day I was there.  Last month the projects were offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays and I want to say they were from 11-11:30 or so.  If you're interested check it out- I was impressed.  Great way to keep kids occupied while you circle the store once or twice.

.50 cent soft serve ice cream

Our family was driving home from the coast when I saw a sign at the McDonalds in Philomath that reads "cones and pies fifty cents".  We had to pull over and check it out.  Sure enough, it's true.  Soft serve is .50 cents.  You can't beat that!  That's an "everyday" deal they have.  On Saturdays you can get 50 chicken nuggets for 9.99.  Each day of the week they have different deals.

Borders Liquidation

I haven’t actually checked our store here in town, but apparently Borders just declared bankruptcy and is supposed to begin closing their stores as early as this Friday. There should be some pretty great liquidation sales on books, so if you are in the area you might stop by and check it out!

I called yesterday and was told they had a u-pick day last week and that they were completely wiped out.  They are planning to have another u-pick day Friday (tomorrow) starting 8am and they anticipate the berries will go very quickly.  They are hoping for more sunshine and for more picking dates.  They said to continue to call for updates.  Blueberries are $1.50 per pound or $2.50 per pound if they have already been picked.

fun activities for kids!

On Friday, July 22nd there will be a Penny Carnival at Central Park from 1-4pm.  Games and activities will be 5 cents each!!
On Friday, July 29th there will be a Children's Parade at Central Park at 6pm.  Children who want to participate can wear their favorite costume and meet at 6th and Monroe.  How cute is that?

Also, last Thursday we went to "Mother Goose Asks Why" at 10am at the library.  We participated in a story time followed by crafts and projects.  It was super fun for my kids and each family got to take a brand new book home.  I'm pretty sure there's a "Mother Goose Asks Why" again tomorrow and on the 21st at 10am.  I'm not sure of the theme but these events are science-based.  The story time was especially crowded last week so be sure to get there early if you want a good spot.

At 8pm on Kids Day Emily Osment is performing (that caught my kids' attention!).  Tickets are $15 and fair admission is included, however, if you'd rather go the cheapie route like us you can sit festival-style outside the reserved seating area.

Wristbands for unlimited rides cost $25 per person per day.  Does anyone know if this is worth it??  Does anyone know what it costs per ride?

Color Wonder $1.84 at Target

I happened to look at the Color Wonders tonight at Target in Albany. Usually they are $7-$8 but they must be overstocked. They were marked at $1.84! … just for this Toy Story kind. I price checked them and that is the right price, plus they have more back in the stockroom. I grabbed a few extras.

My kids love these and I love them because the markers don’t write on anything except the Color Wonder paper! They come with the coloring book and the markers.

There was no clearance sticker, it just looks like a regular price tag on the shelf.

Philomath Frolic Parade

The Philomath Frolic & Rodeo Parade is tomorrow (Saturday, July 9)! It's one of our favorite parades of the summer. It's pretty long and yes, they throw candy :) It was so hot last year, but should be pretty nice this year.
The kid's parade starts at 10:15 and the grand parade starts after that ... I'm guessing 10:30. Bring a blanket to sit on and some sunscreen. Here's the website. Have a great weekend!
